Mother's Day 2018: Celebrating the Mompreneur

Everyday there is a woman waking up early or going to bed late. She might even be doing both. Regardless of how much sleep she does or doesn’t get, this same woman wakes up in the morning to get her family ready for the day. While she makes sure they are all taken care of, she manages to take care of herself as well, as she prepares for another day of work.
As if a mother’s day wasn’t already full, now women all over the world are showing us that they are so much more than just moms. They are also business owners.
This woman is what we call the mompreneur. She’s the mom that manages her home while simultaneously managing her business. She’s the mom that balances her kids’ activities with her clients’ business needs.
Mompreneurs are making a huge wave right now. Gone are the days when having children meant your dreams were put on hold. Moms have taken hold of their immense power and used it to raise their kids AND follow their dreams right into business ownership.
I asked a few members of the mompreneur tribe two questions, here are the responses I got.
What made you decide to start your own business?
“It’s my passion! I’ve never liked working, I know everyone says that... but I’ve never kept a job. Either I left, or they’ve fired me, because I didn’t come in (not because I wasn’t good at my work)... I live for my own work” -online retailer
“I always wanted to do my own thing. Plus once I realized how restrictive it could be working for someone else, I just couldn’t deal. On top of the fact that I was being worked overtime but not paid enough.” -marketer
“I don’t have to seek anyone for any permissions” -virtual assistant
What is your favorite part about working for yourself?
“I don’t have to listen to people talk down on me like I’m THEIR kid ”
“Being able to decide when I work and being able to express my own ideas are my favorite parts”
“I can choose who I want to work with and I make my own schedule”
The mompreneur is everywhere and does everything. Thrive, It Works, doTERRA, custom t-shirt printing, virtual assistant, marketing, etc., the list truly goes on and on. These hard working, goal-oriented moms deserve a round of applause for all they do.
